Core curriculum didactics

• Academic half days occurring monthly for each class from 1pm-5pm

• Protected (pager free) educational time

• First and second year curriculum focused on covering MedStudy

• Third year board review sessions

Professor rounds

• One of our favorite weekly conferences!

• Occurs every Monday from Noon-1 p.m. with lunch provided

• Under the guidance of a faculty mentor, a second- or third-year resident prepares and presents a case followed by a review of the disease process and relevant literature

• The format is interactive with faculty, residents, and medical students participating in the development of the differential diagnosis and the evaluation of the patient

• Seniors gain invaluable experience in searching the literature and presenting a conference to the medical staff

Chief's conference

• Occurs bimonthly on a Wednesday from Noon-1 p.m. with lunch served

• Chief residents provide a fun, interactive conference on a variety of relevant topics

Advocacy conference

• Occurs monthly on a Friday from Noon-1 p.m. with lunch served

• Exposure to inspirational community and hospital speakers and child advocates

• Topics range from addressing social determinants of health to practicing legislative advocacy on a state or national level

Business meetings

• Housestaff meeting

  • Occurs every other Friday from Noon-1 p.m. with lunch served

  • This conference is informal and is an opportunity for the chief residents and program directors to present relevant updates and announcements and discuss any current issues

• Roundtable

• Occurs quarterly for each class on a Friday from Noon-1 p.m. with lunch served

• This conference provides an opportunity for the residents to meet with the program directors to discuss current issues or concerns, with the intent of implementing change and improving the quality of the resident service and educational experiences

Simulation sessions

• The Center for Excellence in Pediatric Resuscitation provides state of the art training for health care professionals working in acute pediatric care settings

• Residents participate in regularly scheduled simulation sessions and procedure workshops

• Each resident is scheduled once a month during outpatient rotations

Additional academic half days

• Workshops and additional educational sessions throughout the year such as Residents as Teachers, Supervisor Workshops, Procedural Skills Labs, etc.

Individual rotation didactics

• Specialty-specific lectures and conferences on individual rotations
